Operation ID

Property Identification Resources

Operation ID was started due to the increasing tide of property thefts and related crimes. They were finding that criminals were effectively removing the serial numbers of property, making it virtually impossible to locate the true owner, or even to determine for certain if the property was actually stolen. The concept of engraving a number that was unique only to the true owner was conceived. The recommendation was that this number was to be etched or otherwise somewhat permanently marked into the property itself. This added one more level of protection to the owner and forced the criminals to deal with one more barrier to elude detection.

This is a form to catalog your items that you can complete on your computer and save or print - OR - print and complete by hand. As long as it is in a safe place where it is protected by potential fire, water, smoke, wind, rodents (it happens), and theft, then you should be safe. I recommend scanning it and uploading it to two different cloud storage sites. You want the form to be protected as if it was in a safety deposit box or safe.

During or after you complete the process, I also suggest making videos of valuables and taking photos. Make sure to take multiples if you have a replacement value policy and always include the serial number. You can’t have too much documentation. Put them in the cloud with your list. Then, when you do Spring Cleaning or put the holiday decor away, you can update it annually to make sure that you are carrying the proper amount of insurance.
